Hyundai wheel loader serves Sheffield recycling station

The new loader, equipped with a standard 3.2m3 general purpose bucket, is used for processing up to 2,500 tonnes per week of incoming bulk tipper waste from local demolition, site clearance, and groundworks. The material is then crushed, screened, sorted and re-loaded for re-use, either as aggregates in new construction and road building, or as carefully-graded cover material for the company’s nearby Parkwood landfill site.

“This is a specialist, expanding section in our multi-facility yard, dedicated to recovering and re-selling as much useful material as possible from redundant buildings and redevelopment work,” says Operations Manager Andy Race.

“Our current recovery rate on bulk tipper waste is about 96%, so this facility is proving to be an invaluable and cost-effective asset for both the local authority and for contractors in this area which is undergoing extensive re-development at present.”

“To achieve this level of performance, we need a tough, reliable machine which can work virtually non-stop on a wide range of materials. The Hyundai is extremely robust, and backed by a good service package – it meets all our expectations,” he added.

The new 18 tonne Cummins powered Hyundai HL760-7, supplied by northern area distributor, Merriman Technical Services of Pye Bridge, Alfreton, is one of Hyundai’s recently updated range of Dash-7 models.

A key feature, appreciated by the operators, is the excellent all-round visibility – an essential safety consideration when constantly manoeuvring between trucks in the busy yard.
