The grant has financed half the work to restore the Victorian Chapel at the Ladywell and Brockley cemeteries back into use as a new wildlife resource and education centre for school children.
It will also provide a much improved venue for funeral services, as none have been held there foe many years.
The project has also created a nature trail through the cemetery along with leaflets highlighting some of the different species of plant and animals living in the area.
Mayor of Lewisham, Steve Bullock said: “The Onyx Environmental Trust has provided us with important funding towards the cost of the restoration of this 19th Century municipal London cemetery area. We have been able to bring the chapel back into use for services and develop a valuable new educational resource for local school groups to visit.”
Margaret Cobbold, General Manager of the Onyx Environmental Trust, added: “Restoring buildings of historic importance, developing wildlife habitats and encouraging biodiversity are all important aims of the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.”
