NEPAL: Supreme Court rules that government must set pollution standards

The Supreme Court ruling follows an earlier decision commanding the government to ensure that sewage is treated prior to discharge into the two main rivers that flow through Kathmandu Valley.

Nepal’s 1997 Environment Protection Act makes the government responsible for setting pollution levels.

Pro Public is a leading Nepali NGO. In addition to its environmental work, it is also involved in the promotion of anti-corruption measures within the political arena.
