The work is on phases three and four of the £24.5m Campbeltown sewerage project, which will bring significant environmental improvements to the area.
The project will include a short extension of an outfall from the existing pumping station at the harbour and a new 2.6km rising main from the pumping station to the existing wastewater treatment works at Slaty Farlan. It will also include a 1.6km sub-sea section.
The new rising main will be used in the future to transfer storm flows on the completion of the final phase (phase five) to improve the wastewater treatment plant and storm water management systems.
Rab Bell, operations director at Morrison Construction Water, said: “This is a vital infrastructure project that will deliver environmental improvements for the people living in Campbeltown and the surrounding area.”
Construction work is expected to be completed at the start of 2010, with the overall scheme due to be fully finished by 2012.
The scale of the project means it has been split into five different phases, the first two of which are already underway.
