Save with steam

The GEM Trap is a fixed-orifice trap that simply uses the condensate passing through it to hold back steam. This is a more effective method of reducing steam outlet and allowing condensate to be returned to a boiler – thus reducing energy costs. GEM’s biggest single contract has reduced energy costs for sweet manufacturer Trebor Bassett at a plant where 80 ovens the size of quarry juggernaut lorries churn out sweets. Despite increased production, the company’s fuel costs have been consistently below budget since the traps were installed.

Other customers include Wrigley’s, Glaxo Wellcome, ICI and Devonport Dockyard.

An invention of Tim Gardner, a chartered engineer who used to design industrial steam systems, the GEM Trap has won several awards in its short history. These include the Engineering Council’s 1998 Environment Award for Engineers, the Millennium Products Award, awarded to British-designed products developed during the last five years, and the Institute of Chemical EngineeringÕs Eurochem/ET award.
