Trade association will help US farmers sell GE corn

Farmers will be able to search by US postal codes to find purchasers who will buy their grain.

“While the vast majority of, elevators, feed mills and livestock producers across the US are accepting the grain, a common source for this information has not been available,” says Dean Urmston, executive vice president of ASTA. “This seed industry effort will provide a significant marketing tool to growers.”

Expected to be completed by the 1999 corn harvest, the web-based database will be located on http://www.amseed.org. The plan has been endorsed by the National Corn Growers, US Grains Council, and the Corn Refiners.

The American Seed Trade Association represents seed companies, including AgrEvo, Garst, Monsanto, Mycogen, Novartis and Pioneer.
