UK traffic growth comes to a halt

Provisional figures for the third quarter of 1998 from the DETR show the first halt to traffic growth for a number of years and follows a slowing down in traffic growth noted in recent quarters.

Key provisional results in the latest statistical bulletin of Traffic in Great Britain show that:

– both car and goods vehicle traffic levels were about the same as they were one year previously

– motorway traffic was about two percent higher than in the third quarter of 1997

– traffic on minor non built-up roads fell by as much as five per cent over the same period.

Traffic in Britain is a quarterly publication which includes analyses by vehicle type and road class.
