VIDEO: One Direction call on army of fans to ‘change the world’
Boyband One Direction have called on fans around the world to push governments to address climate change and poverty.
The group’s new ‘action/1D’ initiative is partnering with charity Save the Children as part of the action/2015 campaign, and calls on world leaders to commit to tackling climate change.
In a Youtube video launching the campaign, the four band members call on ‘Directioners’ to help make a change by filming videos and sending in pictures of what they want the future to look like.
“Time and again our fans have shown how creative and powerful they can be when they unite and that’s why we want to all join together to speak out and hopefully make a real and lasting change to the world around us,” said the band.
“Young people really do have the power to help end poverty, tackle inequality and to stop dangerous climate change. Now is the time for us to unite, take action and raise our voices to show that we care about the future of our planet.”
The launch comes as part of the action/2015 project, an international coalition of 1,600 organisations aiming to put maximum pressure on governments to enact change.
Videos submitted to the action/1D campaign will be turned into a specially commissioned film to screen at the UN Special Summit on Sustainable Development in September and at the Paris climate change talks in December.

“2015 is a year like no other,” says Harry Styles in the video. “You guys are truly amazing and over the years you’ve shown us what you can achieve if you rally together.”
The video already has almost 400,000 views and fans have collectively submitted more than 20,000 ‘actions’ to the campaign’s website. The campaign has been tweeted out to the band’s 24m followers.
