Conder separators meet requirements

UK-based company provides range of oil-water separators conforming to strict European standards

Conder Products, a UK market leader in water and wastewater treatment systems, has become one of the first manufacturers to provide a fully verified range of oil-water separators - full retention and bypass - conforming to the adopted two-part European Standard (BS EN858-1: 2002 and BS EN 858-2: 2003).

This range of separators fulfils the Verification of Separator Testing requirements of the Environment Agency's new PPG3 Guidelines for the Use and Design of Oil Separators in Surface Water Drainage Systems, to be launched in January 2006.
Tested by the BSI, which is working in partnership with the Environment Agency to audit the accreditation process, the new Conder

Separator range exceeded the exacting test requirements, gaining average results of less than one part per million residual oil over the five required range tests.

Revolutionary
Conder's new range of separators has a revolutionary new design, offering a small footprint, to enable savings on installation costs for contractors. Multiple patents are pending to protect the innovations incorporated into this new range of products. The range is ideal for traditional piped drainage systems and can also provide an essential component of sustainable drainage systems, promoting current environmental objectives.

Pollution prevention is a critical part of sustainable drainage systems and verified oil separators will provide the containment of pollutants required as part of the quality discharge criteria.
From January, all new prefabricated separators must comply with the required clauses of the BS EN858-1 standard.

A list of oil separators certified to comply with clause 8.3 of BS EN 858:1 will be published on the Environment Agency's website identifying the separators for which verification evidence of oil separating performance has been supplied, examined and accepted.

Sean Taylor, commercial director, Conder Products, says: "Conder Products are at the forefront of innovation and design with this new range of Separators. To be the first to achieve and exceed the rigorous standards of BSEN858-1 is a clear demonstration of that fact.

"From January 2006, the improvement to the regulation will ensure that all separators conforming to the new standards will be environmentally protective. For the first time, through the Environment Agency website, customers will have clear guidance as to which manufacturers' products meet these new standards."

Meets requirements
Joanna Bradley, Process technical advisor at the Environment Agency said: "I am delighted that the new Conder Separator range fully complies with the requirements of PPG3. These products are verified environmentally protective and when installed and operated correctly these oil separators will help to achieve the agency's overall environmental objectives."
