Awards will identify key players in environmental sectors

The companies seen as the strongest in their field by those who know them best - their clients - will be lauded at the edie awards dinner next month.

As well as a trio of project awards, judged by an expert panel, and the Environmental Personality of the Year - the environmentalist's environmentalist, voted for by edie readers, the Awards for Environmental Excellence include a host of categories which aim to identify the consultancies with the best reputation in their sector.

The awards are unique in taking the views of those who truly know their onions as the yardstick by which the environmental consultancies are judged.

By asking those who use these companies how they rate their service, we remove all the smoke and mirrors, big-budget bravado and spin and get to the nub of the matter - how do they perform once the contract has been signed and there's a job to be done?

This year, the customer-voted awards cover nine separate categories.

The categories are as listed below, follow the links to view the top five consultancies in the running in each category.

  • Best Environmental Consultancy
  • Best Consultancy for Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Best Consultancy for Due Diligence
  • Best Consultancy for Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment
  • Best Consultancy for Waste & Recycling
  • Best Consultancy for Climate Change & Renewables
  • Best Consultancy for Water & Wastewater
  • Best Consultancy for Contaminated Land
  • Best Consultancy to Work For

As can be seen from the shortlists, the largest consultancies continue to dominate the field, with multiple nominations for a number of the big players like AEA, Atkins, Entec, Environ and Enviros.

The final results will not be revealed until October 23 when industry leaders gather at the Natural History Museum for the black-tie awards dinner to find out whether the majors will reign supreme or if there are a few giant killers waiting to upset the apple cart.
