A scheme giving vouchers to homes for recycling has seen rates increase by between 30 and 35%.

The RecycleBank scheme, which has been a success in America, made its UK debut five months ago in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

He said recycling rates since the scheme came had gone up by between '30 and 35%'.

And of the 3725 houses invited to join the scheme 62% had activated their account.

Feedback on the scheme had also been positive with 91% of those who responded to a council survey saying they 'found it easy'.

Result from a second pilot scheme in Halton, in north west England, are due to be announced next week.
