Amendment to species allowed to be released in the UK

The Government has updated the law around species, both animal and fauna, not allowed to be released into the English and Welsh countryside.

In all 24 entries have been added to the list while eight have been removed from it - with wild boar and Chinese mitten crabs among those added.

While the Mongolian gerbil and crested porcupine are amongst those removed from the list.

Technically the update also removes Japanese Knotweed, although it is replaced under new names of hybrid and giant.
