UK industry given chance to fund specific enviro research

A University scheme claims to be the first to allow UK industry to decide the focus of the environmental research projects that it undertakes. The Applied Sciences Industry-Directed Research Forum will be launched in January by the University of the West of England (UWE).

According to the director of the Centre of Applied Research in Sciences, Dr David Cowell: “The scheme will enable companies to ensure that research conducted is of an appropriate nature to give them competitive advantage.” Speaking to Industrial Environmental Management magazine, Cowell stated that this non-exclusive research scheme is being sponsored by the DTI. “They are injecting £5,000 to kick off the scheme. This will fund initial meetings, launch events and literature,” he said.
