Those who sell sustainability will be recognised
Those who promote the message that sustainability is good for business are to be rewarded with a new award. The awards are the first of their kind to focus on the advertising and PR industries, and show the growing emphasis marketing professionals are putting on illustrating to their clients' consumers that the environment matters.
The Green Awards will take in everything from advertising campaigns which highlight a brand's ethical production values through to campaigning CSR departments that try to bring the importance of environmental responsibility to a wider audience.
The idea is to celebrate the work of creative professionals who promote a greener lifestyle as opposed to wasteful consumerism.
The awards will also focus on the growing attention given to corporate social responsibility and the importance of informing the public of ethical decisions made by companies.
Organisers are also hoping to develop the idea of 'reform' advertising - that which includes environmental and social considerations to the marketing mix, during both planning and execution.
The event itself will be carbon neutral, with its estimated impact balanced out by carbon offsetting schemes.
"We're open for entries already and the date for the awards is set for November 29 at the London Guildhall," a spokeswoman for the awards told edie.
"The awards are open to all companies and organisations and recognise brands that communicate sustainability development and ethical practice.
"There are two categories, one for marketing campaigns with budgets of over £100,000 and one for those under £100,000 so small companies have just as much chance of winning as the larger ones."
More information on the awards can be found on the organisers' website at www.greenawards.co.uk.
Categories include best adverts in various media, best PR campaign and best packaging design for an environmentally-friendly product.
