Speaking at Grand Designs Live in London, which finished this week, TV presenter Kevin McCloud explained there is ‘not a hope in hell’ of achieving climate targets unless changes are made to property.
The eco-campaigner suggested new energy-efficient homes must be built and existing residences upgraded with green measures if there is to be any chance of meeting the deadlines for emissions reductions.
“Frankly there’s not a hope in hell of meeting our targets unless we do something about the existing housing stock – and unless we can retrofit and refurbish those homes to a new low carbon economy,” he said.
Mr McCloud’s spoke out as Grand Designs launched The Great British Refurb campaign to encourage people to ask government for help upgrading their property and reduce their carbon footprint.
