Holders of The Planet Mark GreenZone and Exterion Media win Green Apple sustainability awards
Planet Mark-certified companies GreenZone Cleaning and Support Services and Exterion Media competed against 500 other contestants to win Environmental best practice awards at the Green Apple ceremony on November 6th.
GreenZone was awarded a Green Apple for taking a string of sustainability actions and after retaining The Planet Mark™ Certificate for slashing its carbon footprint by 22% in 2016 compared to 2015.
Recent actions taken by GreenZone include the introduction of of electric and hybrid cars, using 100% recycled paper, tackling the company's food waste and introducing a zero-to-landfill policy.
Commenting on the award, managing director Steve Trew, said: “For our company to formally receive The Green Apple Environment Award is a great honour and a reflection of our desire to excel at what we do as an award-winning sustainable cleaning company. It also shows that we continue to deliver a unique service offering, further demonstrated by being granted a Royal Warrant earlier in the year”.
Exterion Media, a leader in the out-of-home advertising industry, is now in its fourth year of certification with The Planet Mark™ sustainability programme.
Exterion Media won its Green Apple Award after cutting its total carbon footprint by 11% in 2016 compared to 2015. The company has incorporated environmental best practice into the design and fit-out of it's new Holborn-based head office, cutting its building energy costs by 31% and ensuring 96.9% of waste is diverted from landfill. The new building facilities also include sustainable features such as cycle racks, good transport links and cycle hire facilities available to employees.
The Green Apple Awards are hosted annually at the Houses of Parliament by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-profit environment group. Now in their 18th year of operation, the Green Apple Awards are a feeder into the European Business Awards for the Environment, with winners having gone on to also gain European recognition.
