Accor launches carbon measurement tool
Global hotel giant Accor has launched a carbon optimiser tool to help business customers measure and cut the carbon footprint of their meetings and events.
The interactive ‘carbon optimiser’ tool uses a set of variables, including the number of participants, nights they plan to stay, size of meeting room, length of seminar, as well as factoring in the energy mix of the host country to calculate the carbon footprint.
It is anticipated this will then enable customers to adopt more environmentally responsible choices when planning their events.
Accor developed the tool in response to a guest survey it ran in six countries which revealed that 84% of business customers are sensitive to sustainable development, with 57% of those saying they take sustainable development into account when choosing a hotel.
Accor executive vice president for academies and sustainable development Sophie Flak said that the tool forms part of the Group’s Planet 21 commitment to increase the sustainable development of its operations.
She said: “The ambition of Plant 21 is to involve more our customers in our continuous-improvement drive on the sustainable development front. The carbon optimizer, an innovative tool packed with completely new calculation variables, is a step in that direction. It will allow us to work with our professional customers to on sustainable offers for meetings and seminars in our hotels.”
