The Memorial University of Newfoundland will act as a drop-off point for items such as used keyboards, monitors and mobile phones which Apple will collect and send on for reprocessing with its e-waste contractor Sims Recycling Solutions.
While Apple has hosted similar events at American universities in the past, it is the first time the company has joined forces with a Canadian educational establishment. The initiative isn’t restricted to the community campus – members of the public can also partake in the scheme.
The joint venture is part of Apple’s plans to extend its recycling program, which currently operates out in the US, into other countries.
