Chip measurement system for spot measurements
The new CMS from Draeger provides an immediate, true digital readout without the need for further evaluation.
The new Draeger Chip Measurement System (CMS) has been specifically developed to ensure accurate, reliable spot measurements of gas and vapour concentrations with minimal user training. This handheld unit combines intelligent operation with straightforward user instructions to provide an immediate, true digital readout without the need for further evaluation.
The CMS comprises an analyser which measures and evaluates the concentration and a variety of plug-in sensors which are known as chips.
Featuring a back-lit, multi-lingual LCD display and a menu-driven user interface, the analyser is supplied pre-configured for automatic operation. An analyser self-check is performed on system start up and, as soon as a chip is inserted, a chip integrity test is carried out.
Each chip carries a bar code which, when decoded by the analyser, provides the parameters for the measurement evaluation such as the gas type and measurement range. Before carrying out a measurement, the system also allows the user to select the way in which data is stored.
There are three options: the user may choose not to store data; a user-selected letter may be assigned as a location reference, or the system will automatically assign a letter code.
Once measured, the result is displayed as a concentration on the digital display. User-selected controls also enable location codes to be entered and data on up to 50 measurements to be stored.
Incorporating a mass-flow regulated pump, the CMS measures the movement of concentration in relation to time, regardless of fluctuations in atmospheric pressure. This constant mass flow capability, together with the sensitivity of the reagent system, is said to enable fast, accurate measurements of, for example, 0.2ppm benzene, to be made.
A tone signal sounds at the end of each measurement cycle and, at this stage, another measurement can be made or another chip selected. Each chip accommodates ten measurement channels and has a lifespan of two years.
Requiring no maintenance, the CMS can be used single-handedly. Leaving one hand free to manoeuvre, this is particularly beneficial in potentially hazardous air sampling applications where personnel are required to climb ladders or to work on gantries or confined spaces.
Supplied complete with 4 AA (LR6) batteries which can provide up to eight hours of continuous use, the CMS may be used to measure ammonia, benzene, hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous fumes, perchloroethylene, hydrochloric acid, sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and nitrogen dioxide.
For remote operation in confined spaces or where access is difficult, the analyser can also be equipped with an additional high flow pump and extension hose. The installation of the remote system is automatically recognised by the software and the user information is modified accordingly. Housed within a leather case, the remote system can also be supplied with a diesel/petrol resistant ball float probe for use where liquids may be present.
Protected against dust and spray water in accordance with IP54, the CMS is intrinsically safe and resistant to electromagnetic radiation. It also carries Cenelec (Europe), UL (USA) and CSA (Canada) certification approval.
