Coca-Cola spreads recycling message during Olympic torch relay
Olympic sponsor Coca-Cola has released details on its initiative to engage thousands of sports fans around the country in the importance of recycling during the Olympic Flame's 70-day torch relay.
Spectators recycled 30,000 bottles into a specialised hybrid “Recycle Beat” van while a dedicated recycling team worked to inspire locals to make personal recycling pledges.
Onlookers were able to recycle their empty bottles and cans into a chute of their choice on the Recycle Beat van activating a musical remix of Mark Ronson’s London 2012 anthem ‘Move to the Beat.’
The bottles collected during the campaign will be recycled at Continuum Recycling – a new reprocessing facility which can return the bottles to shop shelves in as little as six weeks.
Coca-Cola Enterprises’ recycling director, Patrick McGuirk said: “Coca-Cola Enterprises is committed to making recycling easier and more engaging for people. It is not just about recycling at the torch relay, it is about inspiring people to recycle everything possible in their daily lives, in public and at home. We want to show people what a difference recycling can make and the Relay was a unique opportunity to spread this sustainability message.”
