Fish farm problems highlighted

Some types of fish farm have major environmental impacts, and may actually worsen problems of overfishing, says a new report in the journal, Science.


Particularly salmon and shrimp farms were criticised for using around three times as much wild fish in feed as they actually produce, and for causing serious pollution problems – one Nordic fish farm was said to discharge nitrogen equivalent to untreated sewage from 3.9 million people.
