NSP is already required by 1994 state legislation to obtain 425 MW. NSP is currently buying power from 132 MW of wind turbines located on Buffalo Ridge in south western Minnesota near the community of Lake Benton.

“This is a striking victory for the wind energy industry and its allies in the environmental community, who have worked long and hard to bring clean energy to Minnesota. When the full amount of 825 MW of wind capacity is installed, it will generate as much electricity as a quarter of a million households use,” said Randall Swisher, executive director, American Wind Energy Association.
