Taking place today: Last chance to register for edie's flagship Countdown to COP26 event

The UK Cabinet Office's director of partnerships and engagement Matt Toombs has joined the likes of WBCSD director Claire O'Neill and O2's head of corporate responsibility and sustainability Tracey Herald among the headline speakers at edie's Countdown to COP26 virtual event Thursday (20 May).

Registration has opened for edie's flagship Countdown to COP26 event, which will take place virtually on Thursday 20 May. More than 250 business and climate leaders have already registered to attend the event, which forms an integral part of edie's Countdown to COP26 Festival of digital content and events.

Confirmed today (10 May), Toombs will deliver an opening keynote talk titled "Together for our planet: How the UK can lead the world on climate action".

Toombs is director of partnerships and engagement in the Cabinet Office's COP26 Unit. In the role, he defines the COP campaigns and policies to ensure the success of COP26, and manages sponsorship for the event. He delivers this through engagement with various Whitehall departments, business, science and academia.

Toombs joines a stellar speaker line-up including senior representatives from BEIS, ClientEarth, Green Alliance, We Mean Business and the High-Level Champions for Climate Action. Talks will focus on how governments and businesses can elevate their climate ambition, action and advocacy; with discussions based around key COP26 themes across energy, transportation and land use.

COP26 Festival

The virtual event marks the the start of edie’s Countdown to COP26 Festival - a six-month programme of digital content and events.

Supported by headline partner O2, the Countdown to COP26 Festival will inform and inspire businesses to seize the opportunity of the crucial UN climate talks which are being held in Glasgow this November. The Festival will run from May through to October, kicking off with this flagship eponymous virtual event on 20 May.
