Maldives government meets underwater for carbon cut stunt

The government of the Maldives plans to hold an official meeting underwater to highlight the threat of climate change.

The low-lying country is one of those most at risk from rising sea levels and in a 'light hearted' attempt to flag up the issue, the cabinet planned to converse using divers' hand signals while President Mohamed Nasheed is to sign a document calling for global cuts in carbon emissions.

Mr Nasheed, a qualified diver, also plans to hold a press conference underwater following the meeting.
