The works form part of a £1M improvement programme by NIW to upgrade wastewater services across Northern Ireland.

Its current project involves work at the existing site of Culmore’s WwTW to upgrade wastewater services and enhance the capacity at the plant, which currently treats wastewater for 150,000 people from Culmore and the surrounding areas.

NIW’s project manager, Derek Eccles, said: “The improvements at Culmore WwTW will benefit the local population and the environment, while ensuring that wastewater treatment in the Culmore area complies with all current Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and European regulations now and in the future.”
