Solar investment to benefit Welsh businesses
Businesses in South Wales are set to benefit from a £1.25m solar photovoltaic (PV) panel investment by Milford Haven Port (MHP) across Milford Docks and Pembroke Port.
As part of a joint venture between MHP, which manages Wales’ largest port, and solar company The Green Electrician, PV panels have been installed on commercial and residential buildings in the docks.
It is anticipated the renewable upgrade will reduce MHP’s carbon footprint by 172,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. It is also hoped the work will create new jobs in the region.
MHP chief executive Alec Don, said: “This investment in solar panels on our buildings will not only reduce our own carbon footprint, but has underpinned the development of a joint venture with the potential to create seven new skilled jobs in the near future, and a business which can spread throughout South Wales in the coming months.”
Mr Don said that while changes to the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) is expected to reduce demand in the short term, installation of solar PV panels will continue to be an attractive investment as a result of energy price increases.
