Sutton and East Surrey Waters awards Saint Gobain UK pipe contract
Sutton and East Surrey Water has awarded iron fitting manufacturer Saint Gobain UK a £0.5m contract to supply pipes and fittings for a new pipeline on its water main improvement works.
As part of the project, planned for the end of 2011 and is being contracted by Clancy Docwra, new pipeline will be fitted to connect the existing trunk network at Mogador Road, Lower Kingswood to storage reservoirs 5km away at Burgh Heath.
The aim of the works is to improve the flexibility and resilience of Sutton and East Surrey Water’s distribution network during periods of low rainfall and drought.
According to Simon Cottingham of Saint-Gobain UK, Sutton and East Surrey Water opted for ductile iron as it was the most suitable material for the project as the coating on the external pipes provided additional protection and eliminated the need for an epoxy seal coat.
He said: “We offered Sutton and East Surrey Water additional time and cost saving solutions, including a free soil survey to identify corrosion protection system requirements, a pre-delivery meeting incorporating a delivery point inspection, and a local road review to reduce traffic impact.”
