Georgia insurance commissioner John W Oxendine also feared most of the damage would have happened to uninsured property.
The state has already declared a state of emergency last Monday (21 September) following the heavy rain and floods which have killed at least ten people.
Speaking yesterday (22 September) Mr Oxendine said: “I spent some time surveying damage in affected areas of our state this afternoon, and I believe the damage total will easily reach $250m.”
He went on to explain many US home insurance policies cover ‘damage from a variety of perils’, but does ‘not cover damage from flooding’.
