Lord Redesdale was awarded the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) award at a parliamentary reception in London yesterday (November 7), where he was praised for his campaigning of environmental issues in the House of Lords and throughout his career.

CIWEM president David Wilkes said that Lord Redesdale was also chosen for his work as the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for overseas development, international development, energy, and agriculture, as well as several committee positions, including vice chair of the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group.

Chairing edie's Sustainability Leaders Forum (SLF), an event for sustainability pioneers to share knowledge and views on zero waste and zero carbon agendas last week (November 3), Lord Redesdale expressed his views on the UK's energy gap, saying that "we are going to need everything in the pot to keep the lights on".

Outside of parliament, Lord Redesdale also chairs several other environmental organisations, including Cranberry, an environmentally-friendly PC producer, Red Squirrel Protection Partnership, and the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association.

Parliamentary under-secretary for Natural Environment and Fisheries, Richard Benyon MP, accepted the award on Lord Redesdale's behalf before an audience of MPs, Lords and senior environmentalists, where he paid tribute to both Lord Redesdale and CIWEM.

Mr Benyon said: "The three pillars of sustainable development can be seen in these images which highlight the poignancy of both poverty and consumerism"

The evening was sponsored by the NERC Water Security Knowledge Exchange Programme.
