Alistair McGowan backs Nespresso coffee capsule recycling

TV personality and keen environmentalist Alistair McGowan has teamed up with Nespresso to promote the brand's latest UK coffee capsule recycling initative.

Under the scheme, Nespresso will offer a doorstep collection service for all used coffee capsules with the home delivery of each new order of Grands Crus coffees direct to its club members.

In addition, selected Nespresso boutiques have a collection point in Selfridges stores where used capsules can be deposited - this will soon be rolled out across other boutiques.

Alistair McGowan is supporting the initiative. He said: "I think brands can do much more to make recycling less of a chore and the Nespresso capsule recycling scheme is an example of a simple idea that can make a big difference."

Nespresso, a Nestle-owned brand, said the impetus for the scheme came from research conducted by Alupro, officially released today (October 28). This found that over half of UK households (54%) experience guilt every time they bin something that could potentially be recycled.

Almost half of respondents said they would be more inclined to recycle if it was made easier, with 55% of people believing companies should do more to guide them.

Acknowledging the fact that over 92% of the population would rather purchase goods with recyclable packaging, Nespresso's scheme makes recycling easier and more convenient for consumers.

Nespresso UK's managing director Brema Drohan said: "Our new capsule recycling initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to the environment and the wider Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Coffee Program.

"This incentive incorporates the demands of our environmentally-conscious club members and also reflects the value we place on striving towards a greener and more efficient future."
