The Energy HQ, npower Business Solutions Energy Management Qualifications (EMQ)

There has been increasing demand among our customers and other large businesses for help with developing their energy management skills. To cater to this request, we have created a range of specialist training courses, designed to support our customers on their energy management journey.

The EMQ cover a wide range of subjects, from general awareness of energy and waste management, building to an advanced Energy Manager role.

Dave Horton, Energy Specialist at Energy HQ, npower Business Solutions, who has been instrumental in developing the qualifications explains: “We’ve had so many requests from customers for specialist support that we realised there was a genuine need that wasn’t being met”. He added: “as well as equipping customer’s staff with skills they can put into practice, these courses are designed to inspire cultural change that can translate into significant savings to your bottom line.”

The EMQ courses are leading the way and are the only training programme of its kind to be offered by a UK supplier. A key unique selling point for our qualifications is that they have been designed and delivered by Energy Managers and specialists, rather than by a training organisation. This means we can provide access to real-life experiences and examples from experts who walk their talk.

The qualifications have been created to empower our customers and their staff with knowledge and skills in the energy management arena. The training courses have been designed around, and accredited by, the Energy Managers Association (EMA), the Low Energy Company (LEC) and also qualify from Level III towards the BIS Junior Energy Manager Apprentice qualifications. The EMQ have 4 levels, which cover:

Level 1: Foundation An overview of climate change and how to be more energy efficient at work and at home. This course is suitable for all levels of staff and leads to an independently accredited personal certificate.

Level 2: Champion Provides participants with a solid understanding of energy provision, energy data collection and reporting. It incorporates the Foundation levels course, providing Energy Manager Association (EMA) Stage 1 online certification.

Level 3: Expert Designed for staff who have direct involvement with energy systems and targets as part of their role. It offers a comprehensive training programme, recognised by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) as a formal Junior Energy Manager apprenticeship.

Level 4: Master A post graduate diploma in energy management, designed at EQF Level 7. This course is relevant for those who are directly responsible for creating an organisation’s energy policy and strategy and who own the budgets and implementation associated with the same.
