China’s Ministry of Railways has announced plans to reduce the emissions of sulphur dioxide associated with rail travel by 10% by 2010.
The ministry published its latest five-year plan this week which also says environmental impact assessments will be stepped up for any future development of the network while trees and shrubs will be planted along 30,000km of track to offset carbon emissions.
