edie launches updated best-practice guide for businesses tackling single-use plastics
edie has today (24 March) launched an updated report that outlines the steps businesses can and should take to identify, reduce, replace and eliminate single-use plastics from their operations, supply chains and products and services as part of efforts to build back better from the coronavirus pandemic.
Launched on Wednesday (24 March) as part of edie’s Circular Economy Week, the report outlines existing case studies from businesses alongside practical steps on how to turn the tide on single-use plastics.
The report provides an update on the impact that the pandemic has caused and whether it has limited corporate efforts to remove single-use plastics from facilities, operations, products and services and supply chains.
Crucially, it outlines how corporates focused on the issue when the first lockdown in the UK was lifted and how it hints at a new normal for single-use plastics across the nation.
The report features a foreword from Planet Patrol’s founder Lizzie Carr, who claims: “By collaborating with NGOs and grassroots campaigners – often with conflicting values – businesses can act as corporate activists. This approach is a crucial passage to progress, at a time when welcoming uncomfortable conversations that build the pressure and tension, create the pivotal changes needed to improve environmental standards.
“Particularly in light of the series of delays to environmental consultations and rollbacks on proposed bans by Government, which can only suggest a lack of prioritisation or desire to truly ‘Build Back Better’. At this point, businesses have an unprecedented opportunity to step up and drive a green economy in the recovery from Covid-19, trailblazing the way without waiting for legislative changes.”
