edie marks birthday with second website award

edie has celebrated its first year online by scooping the award for 'Best Business Product or Service' in the UK publishing industry association's (PPAi) interactive awards 1999, beating established sites from major publishers in the IT and property sectors.

This is edie’s second award, following the prestigious British Environmental Media Award for ‘Best Environmental Website’.

The PPAi award covered the broad spectrum of interactive media, and entries were judged on content, usability, ease of access, creativity and overall results.

The judges described edie as “excellently produced” and suggested that it be used “as a benchmark for all other business-to-business websites”.

The judges were impressed by this new brand that had been created by a smaller publisher and were appreciative of the site’s accountability and list of testimonials. They unanimously agreed that this site is essential for any user interested in the environment.

The shortlist for this award was:

  • Edie – The Environmental Data Interactive Exchange – Faversham House Group Ltd.
  • Egi (Estates Gazette Interactive)- Reed Business Information.
  • ZD Net UK – Ziff-Davis UK.
  • VNUnet – VNU Business Publications.

Launched in May 1998, Edie is a free, personalised, interactive news, information and communications service for environmental professionals worldwide. The site provides a number of key sections including a dedicated environmental search engine, weekly international news by email and on the web, an interactive job centre, a library archive, technology database and an environment and energy online help line giving free advice from the Government’s E&E Helpline. The site now has over 10,000 users a month and is growing at a rate of 18 per cent month on month.
