Guide to help house-builders buy recycled
A new online tool designed to reduce construction waste will guide the construction industry in increasing recycled content in building work and meeting minimum requirements.
Launched by Government waste body WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), the Recycled Product Guide documents more than 150 products across 35 common categories available with higher levels of recycled content for use in construction, regeneration and refurbishment projects.
“An increasing number of construction clients and planning authorities are setting minimum requirements for recycled content as a project-level outcome,” says Dr. David Moon, WRAP’s programme manager for construction procurement.
“As a result, there is greater demand for comprehensive information on the range of high quality products on the market that contain above-average levels of recovered material.”
The guide includes product descriptions, supplier details, as well as details on the various products’ percentage of recycled content, its life expectancy and additional information such as the recycled materials used.
It is available online or can also be downloaded, along with case studies and procurement guidance developed by WRAPto help clients and contractors increase sustainability in building projects.
A free complementary online toolkit can also be accessed by users to identify techniques for increasing the overall use of recycled content within particular buildings or projects.
