Hong Kong based Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings (CKI) announced this morning (July 28) it was in the ‘preliminary stages’ of making a bid.

The bid is for the Northumbrian Water Group, which includes Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water.

Northumbrian Water Limited serves a population of 2.6 million people in the north east of England with water and sewerage services.

It also has about 1.8 million customers in the south east of England where it provides water services trading as Essex & Suffolk Water.

A spokesman for CKI said: “CKI notes the recent speculation regarding a possible offer for Northumbrian Water.

“CKI is in the preliminary stages of assessing a potential cash offer for Northumbrian Water.

“There can be no certainty that an offer will ultimately be forthcoming, a further announcement will be made when appropriate.”
