Agency leads by example on eco-management
News in BriefThe European Environment Agency has aced the EU's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), passing its audit for the second year running without a single deviation.
The EEA was the first EU body to register under EMAS and in 2004 introduced its own environmental management system to ensure it operated in an environmentally sound manner.
This year's audit focused on how well managers integrate environmental thinking into overall planning and decision-making.
The auditors were particularly impressed by the Agency's 'project procedure' which requires programme managers assess the possible negative environmental effects of EEA projects before approving them.
