As part of an ongoing effort to increase city recycling rates to 40% in the next financial year Oxford has introduced green waste collections for residents.
The city council hopes the move will up annual composting of municipal waste from under 1,000 tonnes to over 4,000.
According to Agrivert, the company awarded the contract to process the waste, the resulting compost will also benefit local agriculture, with 90% of the end product suitable for spreading on fields reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers.
