The Future Friendly Awards, which are now in their second year, are looking for people who are making a difference to their local community by championing sustainability or inspiring other people to adopt greener lifestyles.

With just days to go until the entries close, the organisers are urging people to enter the awards or to nominate a local "eco-preneur" or eco-hero to receive funding to continue their project.

And it is not just the eventual winner that will benefit from the scheme - all five finalists will win the chance to have a film made showcasing their work.

One example of the kind of initiative that the awards are looking for is the Bag Ladies, from Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, who tried to encourage their local community to ditch single-use plastic carrier bags for reusable bags.

Eco-entrepreneur and broadcaster Joanna Yarrow, who is fronting the call for entries, said: "The inspiring leadership of the Bag Ladies in Hebden Bridge really proves the impact that small-scale people power can have.

"Not only that, their products are a great demonstration of how we can live more sustainably without compromising our quality of life."

Watch Joanna Yarrow talk to the Bag Ladies below.

The awards are open to anyone over the age of 14 and entries close at midnight on January 23. For more information, or to enter or nominate someone, visit the Future Friendly website at
