A planned trial of speed bumps which generate energy to power road signs and streetlights has been put on the back burner by council chiefs.
Reports in the media this month claimed that the speed bumps, manufactured by English company Highway Energy Systems, would be used in a pilot scheme in Ealing, west London.
However, Ealing Borough Council told edie that since the journalist originally made the enquiry a month ago, it has decided put the project on hold and spend the funding on other transport schemes.
The speed bumps generate energy when traffic passes over them, putting weight on a number of plates which move up and down and drive a generator which produces an AC or DC current.
