A combination of drought and the country’s famous dusty red topsoil has created a storm that’s swept across Australia’s biggest and most populated city and the surrounding area.

The emergency services warned residents to stay at home as visibility fell close to zero and world famous landmarks disappeared in a red haze.

Weather forecasters said winds could have reached 40mph but they did expect the storm to die down by the end of today (23 September)and the weather forecast for tomorrow is much calmer.
