Unilever collaborates with DHL to drive sustainability initiatives
Unilever has signed a new agreement with DHL to drive the partnerships sustainability initiatives and reduce costs.
The agreement will look to push forward initiatives for improving carbon efficiency and reducing waste within global logistics operations.
Details of the agreement will set out Unilever’s strategic business plans and provide a clear framework of how the two companies will work together on sustainability.
This will include reducing carbon emissions, cost and waste to support the delivery of Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan commitments and DHL’s GOGREEN initiative.
Under the Joint Sustainability Programme DHL and Unilever said they will share further information on their environmental improvement strategies and solutions.
In a statement, DHL Supply Chain told edie: “DHL and Unilever have so far identified four main areas of joint interest. Establishment of a blueprint for future sustainable warehouse designs in various geographies (sustainable building fabrics, access to renewable energy, low carbon lighting/heating)”.
The other three areas of interest are exploration of sustainable transport solutions and technologies, waste management and recycling strategies and management of subcontractor emissions.
The statement added: “The aim is to have some specific project plans developed around these themes during the fourth quarter of this year for progression during 2013”.
