Angus opts for Heil Powerlinks in fleet renewal
Heil Europe has recently supplied Angus Council with seven new Powerlinks as part of a fleet renewal programme over the next three years.
The Powerlinks are the first Heil vehicles that the council has purchased and William Whyte, Fleet Services Manager of Angus Council, said; “We chose Heil because of the quality of the product, service support and the reputation that Heil not only have in waste collection bodies but also in tanker bodies.”
The new Powerlins will be operating in an area of approximately 842 sq miles to improve existing commercial and household waste collection services. Maintenance of the new Powerlinks will be provided by Angus maintenance workshop located in Arbroath.
The Powerlink, manufactured by Heil, provides flexibility to any RCV fleet. With its full-cycle compaction mechanism, it is stated to produce less friction than conventional channeled compaction systems thus ensuring that a greater force is directed into the load. The reduction of friction increases durability of materials, improving whole life costs.
Additionally, a new hydraulic system is designed to offer improved performance; reduced downtime; lower maintenance costs and less risk of environmental pollution.
Heil offers a variety of options for body sizes on the Powerlink with cubic capacities of 16 to 26m3.
At last month’s CIWM Torbay show Heil was represented by two of its major customers, PFB Self Drive and Seddon Atkinson. On its stand PFB exhibited the Heil Eurocycler with its new Comb lift mechanism and detachable side panniers.
The Eurocycler has a body length of 7.7 metres and a capacity of 25.3m3, which is split 11.6m3 in the top compartment and 13.7m3 in the bottom. A split container on both sides of the body allows the simultaneous operation and dumping of recyclables into the body chambers from either side.
The Comb mechanism allows containers to be lifted in a range from 120-360 litres. With the added feature of the detachable panniers, users can employ both sides for a box recycling system, or one side for boxes and the other side for wheeled containers.
The new Comb Lift can be fitted to one or both sides as an option to give complete versatility of operation.
