Green treatment for Greencore

Instead, the treatment plant at Greencore Cross hills relies on two main components of the Bionetix bacterial range – BCP22 and BCL 4000. BCP22 contains a specially formulated range of adapted high-performance microorganisms developed for use in the biological wastewater treatment of greases, fats and oils.

It contains surface tension depressants and penetrants, which loosen and liquefy heavy grease deposits, assisting in their bio-degradation.

The major component of BCL 4000 is Yucca shidigera. This inhibits the activity of the enzyme urease, which converts nitrogen and urea to ammonia. Although the mode of action is unclear, the principal components of Yucca, saponin and sarasaponin, tend to immobilise the enzyme.

In wastewater bio-solids, the lack of odour being generated by the sludge material is generally attributed to activity against the anaerobic bacteria.
