Red Forge introduces wireless crane weighing

Red Forge Ltd states that introduction of the "Link-a-Weigh"" offers a reliable wireless crane link weighing system. Red Forge partners - Welvaarts bv (the Dutch on-vehicle weighing experts) has gone through an in depth development programme to improve the reliability of the system..

The introduction of an improved, “ruggedised” weigh link around 18 months ago marked the start of the improvements, which have now been carried still further with the introduction of a BlueTooth wireless version.

Red Forge points out that cables and hydraulic pipes are a constant vulnerability on a vehicle mounted crane with associated high maintenance costs.
The introduction of “Link-a-Weigh”” removes the need for crane-mounted load cell power and signal cables thus increasing the weighing system reliability still further.

The “Link-A-Weigh”” weighing link load cell assembly contains electronics which are powered by a self-contained rechargeable battery. When performing the weigh function, the electronics convert the measured signal from the load cell into a radio signal. The resultant radio signal is then transmitted to the display processor unit in the vehicle cab. This facility provides a system remote of the crane jib and is, says Red Forge, “out of harm’s way”.

A world-wide standardised means of wireless data transfer is employed by the use of state- of-the-art BlueTooth connectivity, the company adds. This allows the accurate weighing data to be sent from the crane-mounted load cell to the remote cab-mounted electronics. This not only ensures the maximum physical protection for the electronics and data conduit, but also permits interference-free data transmission, even when operating in close proximity to other transmitting equipment such as “crane remote control units”.

The Welvaarts system is stated to carry full European approval, meaning that it is suitable for use in conjunction with any Welvaarts certified, on-board weighing system.

The BlueTooth “Link-A-Weigh”” System will interface directly with the Welvaarts “Delta”” System. It will also interface to a remote, radio controlled crane unit, for crane loaders.

The flexibility of the existing Delta weighing computer allows the user to configure any necessary specification, in order to suit their crane weighing needs. Also included, is the facility to store and retrieve all necessary “certified” weighing data, using a Memory Card. The data can then simply be downloaded to the user’s computer system with a minimum of effort.
