Social housing landlords to benefit from waste exchange service
A new waste management framework that could help facilitate house clearances, waste exchanges and community recycling is to be unveiled later this month.
Northwest procurement consortium Procure Plus is inviting waste management professionals to attend an event in Merseyside to find out how they can offer services through a new waste management framework for social housing it is launching.
The framework is split into three lots. The first lot covers office and administration waste such as paper, bottles and toner, while the second is targeted at the large volume of waste generated from planned maintenance such as kitchen and bathroom replacements and on-going repairs of social housing stock.
The final lot will cover neighbourhood waste and is being seen as an opportunity for third sector organisations and social enterprises, as well as waste management companies, to get involved with house clearances, waste exchanges and community recycling.
“The framework has been designed to offer social housing landlords a cost-effective means of dealing with their waste management requirements, but will also provide opportunities to assist contractors who participate in our repairs and maintenance and voids frameworks with their waste needs,” explained Procure Plus’s senior procurement manager Clare Tetlow.
She added that the framework could also be used to encourage both the physical regeneration of neighbourhoods and offer training for local residents.
“With this in mind, we’re looking for suppliers who can help drive community engagement and help train tenants to assist with clean up initiatives, so they can encourage fellow residents and maximise recycling efforts.”
