Water meters

Water companies have axed their demand to install meters at properties that have undergone structural alterations, in line with the government’s Water Industry Act (1999). Customers can now choose between an unmetered bill, or a free meter on a one-year trial basis. Properties that have been converted from or to multiple dwellings will not be included under the policy change.

Top engineering academics are avoiding British universities because of poor pay, according to the government’s latest Review of Higher Education Pay and Conditions. Dr Bob Hawley, chairman of the Engineering Council said: “Engineering is the nation’s wealth creator. If we fail to recruit and retain the best teachers of engineering, we will find it increasingly difficult to produce world-class engineers.”
