Mexico City plans to install outdoor air filters to improve ambient air quality

The Respira filters are a Mexican design and act by sucking in air, filtering out particulates and exhaling purified air toward floor level.

Mexico City environmentalists have pointed out that such filters could represent an overall negative environmental impact if the energy required to run the filters results in a higher environmental cost than the improvements in air quality. Also of concern to environmentalists is the impact of disposing of used filters.
